This is one of the little boys at the playgroup I take my son to. He's adorable!! I wouldn't mind some C/C if you have it. I'm really trying to get close-ups figured out.
This is very nice! The eyes look great, the light is nice and soft on the face. My nit-pick would be that the eyes are quite centered...did you have any extra space for a different crop? None-the-less, it's a super shot IMO!

I'm on the laptop now and the original is on my desktop, but I'm pretty sure I have space off to the right. To the left is the mom's hand. I'll try that out tomorrow. Thanks for the tip!
I tried the whipping post, but I get more feedback here.
oh well-
bummer-
I would like to see it as elaine suggested, with a different crop (I'm just saying for you to see if it works better for you or not; it might work best as is)-
you've got some blue on the face; I wonder if you could pull out some of the blue in hue/sat or using levels in the blue channel-
I agree with the others' suggestion of a slight cast, but I'd also like to see
those amazing eyes brought out a bit more. I can show you what I mean if
you don't mind my playing with your image.
EDIT: You didn't seem to mind in other threads, so I'm going to risk it.
Here's how I'd enhance the eyes (got rid of the cast while I was at it):
Love the eyes, Bernard. What did you do to them? I tried lightening them w/ levels but maybe I didn't do so enough.
Oddly I cannot see this color cast you are all mentioning, so obviously it's my crappy monitor. I really need to get that straightened out! The original & Bernard's look the same on my computer (as far as the color goes). Weird.

"Each picture captures a unplaceable momment." I am thinking about being a photographer when i'm older. I practice alot and hope this website will help me grow to become a better photographer and help me learn more!

just curious...did you use any flash fill for this? his hat brim is pretty big and looks like it could possibly cause the face to underexpose...or maybe enough light is getting through so this isn't a problem.

How do you make the eyes pop like this? Is there a tutorial somewhere? I love the whole picture, but the eyes are amazeing!

~Life is like photography. You use the negatives to develop.~
I did the eyes on two seperate layers: one for the green part and one for the
whites. I popped the green using a photo filter adjustment layer. I selected
"Color" in the dialog box, I clicked on the default orange color to get the
color selection dialog. The cursor changes to the eye drop tool whenever the
color selection dialog box is open in Photoshop. I used it to sample the green
of his eyes and selected one of the brightest versions of the green for the filter
After clicking OK I selected 100% intensity for the photo filter and clicked OK.
Now I changed the blending mode of the layer to Screen and filled its mask
with black, since I didn't want it to affect the entire image. Next I selected
a soft white paintbrush set to about 15% opacity and started painting over
the green parts of the eye slowly revealing the photo filter layer beneath.
The whites were much easier. I created a new empty layer, changed its mode
to "Overlay", chose a 30% white brush and started to paint the white areas
until they looked right. I then slightly blurred this layer so that the edges of
the retouch weren't so obvious. And that's about it.

The images I see...
don't forget the whipping post if you really want some heavy duty c&c-

I also think there's too much cyan/blue in the face. The skin tone doesn't look quite right to me. I'd also like to see some more detail in the face.
Otherwise this is an adorable shot.

No fill flash--I don't have a good flash yet, and I hate the on-camera flash. A new flash is on the top of my wish list!
