Question, It is only letting me upload one picture to here... Why's that? Can i upload another picture?

Another question. I see people who have pictures in folders. How do i upload pictures to my accont and put them into folders?

Thank you!

Welcome to Dgrin. I believe you can only upload one photo per message, but most people have paid hosting services either via their own server or through a photo hosting service.

Digital Grin (dgrin) is a message board and is not a forum based off of a social network site which gives you free space to host and store things. The dgrin accounts let you post messages, and individual photos in messages, but is not used for storage.

Dgrin is actually owned by a photo sharing site! Smugmug It's not free, but worth the money. ($5 discount referral code: hOftRGzEzf1SB). Most (not all) of the people here have accounts with smugmug, but nearly everyone loves smugmug and the service that provide.

As for the photo, it capture a great moment, but believe it would be stronger from a more direct angle.

    Yes its that easy.

Thus if the photo fits the forum header ..ie its a photo of a horse in a paddock then thats nature...if its a portrait of a friend then thats people ..if its a photo of people playing sport then thats sport etc etc

Sometimes you may not get a lot of feedback & other times you will get lots. Forums are fickle things. Just post some photos & join in talking to others always seems to be the best start.

    Welcome to d/grin btw.

You will get the most out of the forum by doing just what you are doing. Post pictures, join in discussions, and look and comment on the posts of others.

As far as this picture goes... I like the angle and the fact that you cannot see the girls face. The high angle suggests to me that she is praying to something higher than herself. You don't need to see her face, as the picture could be anyone.

    I like it.

    I Katlin! Welcome.

Some direct answers to your questions:

    1. You may ATTACH only 1 photograph to a post. When you attach a photo, a copy of your photo is uploaded and stored on the DGrin host. During that process, the photo is "reprocessed" to make is smaller on disk. This will, generally, reduce the quality of the image served up to viewers of your post.

    2. You may add as many posts to a thread as you wish and in each of these, you may attach another photo.

    3. If you wish to include more than on photo in a single post, you must host the photos on another server and include links to that photo in your post. Refer to the Tutorials on the menu bar of each DGrin page for more information on how to link to hosted photos.

    4. Gus and others have provide great answers to your question about where to start new threads. Sharing your work and your expertise is a great way to learn. You will learn loads when you do this and invite others to comment on your work. I have often uploaded what I concidered to be a pretty good image, only to have others very gently show me where I had missed the mark. This has greatly speeded up my learning.

As you may already have come to realize, this is a great community of folks who all share a number of traits (1) they are all very nice people, (2) they all want to learn, and (3) they all have something to offer others and are very willing to do so.

So, dive right in and have fun! The water's great!

Katlin...first of all WELCOME! clap.gif Secondly...just remember photography is more than just taking pictures...and I know you've come to the right place. I've learn alot from the group here.

In your picture I'm not sure what you're trying to convey...sometimes pictures tell a story. I'm confused with this one.headscratch.gif But that's just me...I tend to look for a story in every picture.

    Well once again...WELCOME!

    Welcome to dgrin.

Very nice shot....do try different angles and lighting with the same pose and you will learn.....as far as geting comments many of us can tell you that many people will stop by and look and never leave a commnet of any kind.....maybe they think that a simple I like it isn't good enuff >>>>for that I don't have an answer......many times I have been frustrated and also seen the frustration on this board for just that......500+ views and 5 comments 3 of whioch were me answering 2 comments by by viewers and 1 shameless bump to bring my post back from the nether worlds of pages below.......but I do catch myself dropping in on a thread and going nice photo and zip I'm off to another spot on dgrin or a different site all together.......so I try to remember that if I visit a pic leave a note......even if it is just a simple I like it......if I see something I would do differently I try to say so...but that doesn't make my suggestion correct for anyone but me and that in itself doen't make it correct.

As your signature line says you think you want to be photog......are you taking anyclasses to push you along??? I am sure some here are degreed in photography or Fine Arts and some are not.......I am sure a lot are self taught and that is along hard road to travel......just food for thought.

Study your photog heros........I was very fortunate to be able to converse with mine several times over the years and that helped me a lot.

    Good Luck in your endeavors.

    Katlin,

Like a lot of what people state, photography can be and often is a lot more than just pushing the shutter release. A lot of people can take great pictures and never post-process them. Many of us use low-end to high-end graphics software to enhance, tweak, change, alter, delete, add, etc. various elements to the pictures we take; e.g., post-process. Just because something looks so-so out of the camera does not mean that it can't be saved to something more memorable. A lot of people here at dgrin will help - just ask - they are listening.ear.gif

There are a lot of programs out there, from very beginner to very advanced.
    Adobe Lightroom
Adobe Photoshop CS2 (now available as CS3)
    Adobe Photoshop Elements
    Corel Painshop Pro
    Aperture (Mac only, I believe)

A lot of people use Photoshop, with Photoshop Elements being the least expensive and not doing everying that CS2/CS3 can do (I believe). Lightroom is not that expensive, but it has a lot of wonderful reviews and capabilities, too. Of course, what I consider expensive/cheap may be different from you. :D

If you are still learning then the lesser expensive Elements may work best. Remember - these packages offer a lot of features which you should make attempts to understand what they are doing. And you should understand what they do in relation to what you got out of your camera.

i would highly recommend lightroom, although i have never used elements.

since you are a student, you can get a copy of lightroom from academicsuperstore.com for something like 95 bucks. i believe you have to fax them your student ID to verify that you are indeed a student.

elements is even cheaper at about $68.

i would recommend downloading the 30 day trial from adobe's website to see which one suits you best.

Knowing you are a HS student I highly recommend using Academic Superstore.....all you need to do is scan your school ID and DL and email to them they keep it on file for a year I think...maybe longer......

Also a bit of FreeWAre is the GIMP

that link takes you to the hompage of Gimp.....Shay Stephens swears by it I think.....or is that at it...Hmmmmmm

Any way I hear it is very good and I believe Shay uses Bibble as a raw converter.... that link also takes you to their homepage.......

What camera do you use? You profile just says digital camera, knowing what your limitations are can help with what people suggest you do or what software to buy......

For now download Gimp and give it a try.....It is FREE so there is nothing to loose and being in High School doesn't mean you can't start out on a career in something you love to do...that is if you love to do it and even be doing pro work while still in HS.....you just have to decide if you can actually put that much effort and work in to it......and with digital it is somewhat less expensive than a few years ago when film was the only alternative.......who knows maybe you could even assist a local PRO doing weddings and commerical work after school.....assisting usually means schleaping the gear around .....but you can always inundate the pro with questions........until then....do it here.
