I worked up this picture of my granddaughter to see if somehow it might qualify for the current LPS challenge, but, alas, it did not. I like the photo though, so I thought I would share it with you. Here is Miss Em in one of her more thoughtful moods. The slump in her shoulders as well as the expression on her face definitely show that she is sad. I don't know what she was thinking of at the moment I took the photograph. Maybe it was about the fact that her playmate (me) had gotten interested in something other than the game we were playing, ie, taking her photograph!

I love this. Beautiful lighting and tones. :D. One thing though that makes it not as good as it shoudl be. For me anyways. She is looking to the edge of the frame. there for looking out of the frame. I am wondering what she i looking at. Either not as tight on the left side, or having her look into the middle of the frame. An easy fix.

Thanks, Jan. She is a wonderful - and challenging - subject. :D

Gavin, thanks for the kind words. I worried about her being to the left of the frame and looking to the left. Definitely not following the rules. Laughing.gif. She is actually staring into space - not at anything at all except what is going on in her little head, so I went with this crop given that there is nothing interesting to the left of her. Still, you may well have a point that showing more to the left would work better. I'll try it and see. Thanks for the comment and the suggestion!! :):

I agree-- give her some space in the frame to look into-- even if she's not looking at anything. It's a very nice capture otherwise.

it does seem to be the consensus to give her some space to look into, depending which direction she is looking-

regardless, a neat photo, and a nice conversion-

ps she would be even more sad if she didn't have such a wonderful grandma that spends time with her!-

Thanks dogwood. As soon as I get a chance I will post a re-crop to see if that does the trick

George, I am the lucky one to have her as my playmate once a week. Life is very simple when I am with her. I just run myself ragged and do what she says!! Three year olds are a hoot.

Lovely shot! Well done on the B&W. I'm not worried about the lack of space on the left, but would try and crop a little form the right to balance it.

    Really well done.
    C&C always welcomed.

    Cheers

Thank you very much for the kind comments, Chris, and for your good suggestion, which I think I'll try in addition to seeing how it looks if I include more space on the left. I do love to get up close in pictures like this so tend not to leave much wiggle room.

I must agree, the tones, the light of the child's hair and from the surroundings make it a very nice and complete picture. The child's expression also makes one wonder what he is thinking about. Great pic all-and-all.
