Nashville Songwriter's Network
so...i was in nashville visiting my mom and we decided to have dinner at the French Quarter Cafe' (mmmmm gumbo)
it just so happened to be the place to be that night. several members of the nashville songwriter's network were there and put on a fine show. we were also surprised to learn that Kyle Cook, from Matchbox 20 was playing that night. what a treat!
The lighting on the stage was absolutely HORRIBLE. out of about 200 shots i got 48 usable images...and that was shooting RAW with my 70-200 2.8 VR and the old trusty lightbucket...the nikon 105mm f/1.8 manual. I went back and asked the sound guy if he could give me more lighting...he tweaked a nob and gave me about 1/3 of a stop which i was grateful for. I put a lot of time into PP....all i have to say is that adobe lightroom ROCKS. i adjusted white balance all the way down to 2200 or less on a lot of these because the stage lighting was so warm.
enough talk...on with the show!
1. Kyle Cook of Matchbox 20 playing with another artist.
2. Kyle rarely looked up from what he was doing. i managed to get one shot of his eyes heh.
3. Another of the performers.
4.
5. I really like this one for some reason...gave it pretty much the same treatment in post as the others, but with different results. yes, i know...i should have cloned out the guitar sticking into the frame
6. Do the 4 lights add or detract from this photo? i left them in so i could get your opinions.
7. A little closer here with the 70-200
8. here you can get an idea of how wonky the lighting was. parts of her were lit more than others.
9. It makes for a neat looking black and white conversion though...
10. Very little light here....you can tell that i had to boost it a lot in post. i almost deleted this pic until i converted it...i think it works with the slightly blown / grainy feel and his expression...what do you all think?
11. One last one of Kyle. I was very happy with how this turned out.
