My brother' inlaws Coolpix 5700 cannot focus. Both screen and View finder (electronic view finder I believe) display partialy very dark and very blur image. I can press the shutter and take picture but of cause the picture is the same as it was displayed on the viewfinder/screen, almost blackwhite blur pictures.

There is no error code what so ever. It appeard as if there is something in front of the lens as the view finder is very very dark and when half press the button, the flash almost popup regardless indoor or outdoor.

Any idea that I can try to fix it? It is really a solid build camera with large zoom and hotshoe, ED glass and can shoot RAW. I really hate to see it get throw to the trash...

Thanks

Eric

Has the camera been dropped or otherwise traumatized? If what you are seeing in the viewfinder matches the picture, it almost sounds as though the lens' internal mechanism has been damaged. . . .

I'd send it to Nikon for an estimate. Sorry for your trouble.

If, by some chance, it's dead in the water, they can be had inexpensively on eBay, FWIW.
