What NOT to do at the beach

This shot was taken on the Oregon Coast. A couple of my friends decided they wanted to get as close to the rocks as possible! Turns out, they got a bit too close, and I was luckily ready with my camera to capture the moment!
Enjoy

Great photo, I love it!

But, it does keep the Coast Guard busy
Great timing and a great pic to show your buddies when they try to act smart with you....lol At least you showed enough sense to be away from the water while looking through the viewfinder. You came out dry and with a super shot. They came out wet and, most likely, with soiled undies :lol
Good one ^5 Thanks for sharing,
Steve
Noone was hurt. The gentleman with his arms flailing tragically lost his cell phone in the encounter, but everyone survived.
There were many laughs and celebrations after we all had realized the potential seriousness of the day's activites
Thanks for the kind words! We all feel very fortunate that we now have documented proof of a presumably unbelievable story

I thought it was a silhouette. It easily could be and there is a monthly contest at his site, this month it is silhouettes.
Great shot, as they say, shot of a lifetime, unless you can make some more friends and talk them into doing it, too. I would show it all I could, enter it, whatever. Blow it up big. Sell it to the Lesser West Coast Society.

where the waves crash up like that, and people climb down (in this case) to get closer. They stand there with their arms up in the air as if daring the wave to soak them. I only have one shot with a guy in front of the wave, it really helps show the height of some of these waves!
Sorry your friend lost his cell phone, but at least he wasn't hurt.
For local bay area people the spot is at Pebble Beach, below the parking lot where the waves hit the reef. Pebble is between Pescadero and Bean Hollow. This is not the famous Pebble Beach golf course :
Good catch, and a dramatic photo. It makes it more special that you know the people in it too!

R.I.P cell phone though . Great capture! I'll bet those guys will be telling that war story forever now... especially with proof of how big the wave really was! :P
