Or at least tough guy wannabees.

IMG_3416_900.jpg

BTW, these are totally wild animals which I stumbled upon on a rural dirt road in Colorado during my travels last week. They were curious, but otherwise unafraid of me. I did not abuse their trust by getting too close.

Thanks for looking,
-joel

Wow, great shot! I can't believe they let you get so close. Usually they are so shy, aren't they?

Thanks, Jan! We had that discussion a few weeks back. Evidently the shyness is learned behavior. These critters were evidently too young to worry. When I rounded the bend (on my motorcycle, no less), there were six or eight foxes in the road. By the time I got off the bike and got my helmet off and camera out, there were only these two left. It was a lucky break that they stuck around. During the time that I was shooting them, a few cars passed. Each time the foxes would hide, then come back out after the car had left. Incredible.

    Regards,

Excellent capture Joel and I applaud your concern for their safety by not getting too close. I have noticed that the younger wildlife often don't have the same fear (yet) of humans as their elders. I had a young caracara get within a few feet of me earlier this year.

Good stuuf Joel. There are more foxes around than most people realize but they are sure difficult to locate.
