It is a tradition in Korea to throw a spectacular 1st Birthday party. I had the pleasure of photographing this little guy in his "birthday suit". May be the cutest sight I have ever seen. His mother wanted photos for party invitations and as keepsakes to mark the event. All photos were shot at the Louisiana State University campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

As always, C&C welcome.

And lastly a BW conversion for the fun of it.

I love them! With that colorful outfit, I think it's a shame to make one b/w though. You did a great job! thumb.gif

Thee are great. I snuck a look at them at work, and must say they lit up my day.
Really cute shots, and great treasures for the parents.

Awesome captures!! Number 3 is incredibly engaging!! love the expression! You really should consider going pro with child portraiture!! (unless you already are, then i understand why!!) If i recall, you had posted a great series of a sweet little asian girl a few weeks ago?... that shoot was equally lovely!! You have a fabulous eye for this type of work!! Not an easy feat to catch these fantastic expressions! Love it!

    Keep 'em coming! bowdown.gif

Thanks to all of you. He was very well behaved the entire shoot, and this one took longer than I intended.

I have a series of a pair of twins I shot last weekend also that I need to sort through. A brother and sister born early a couple months ago. They are very small still and for me were a difficult subject.

For this series, I had to convert to BW on a few of them so that Mom would see what that would look like. I would bet that she will not order a BW, but had I not done so she probably would have asked to see one.

I have a family to photograph Thursday and Bridals on Saturday, and my "real job" has me working nightshift 5 to 5, seven days a week right now. I am ready for a break, but this has forced me to use early morning light vs afternoon light so that was nice.

Thanks again for all the kind comments.

Personally love photo 5 and 7. 5 shows the child's happiness and true joy while no.7 looks really nostalgic. All the photos are keepers. I'd just like to ask if the outfit worn by the child is the traditional one for korean 1 year old parties?

These are adorable, Jeff! 1, 2 and 5 are my favorites. I really love the low perspective in #2, it works so nicely. And 5 of course, I'm a sucker for tightly shot expressions like that!

I am definitely partial to the ones with the foliage background, it compliments his colorful, traditional attire. The stone columns's texture and graphical elements don't work quite as well as in some other shoots of yours (the little girl comes to mind, I really liked her in this setting for some reason!)

I like those 3 as well, especially 2. I was anxious to see if anyone hammered on that one for all the broken rules...tilted....large post to the right of his head in background(distracting?)and the blown sky. That one in particular was a tough exposure, but I immediately liked what I saw when I finally got exp right.....despite flaws.

I had seen that flower bed a couple weeks before and knew it would be perfect not only because it was colorful, but it was the perfect colors for that outfit he was wearing. We searched high and low for an oriental garden in the area to use to no avail. I don't really dislike the archetectual elements in this series, but agree the others were better. In the other set....of his big sis, the building is much, much older, and although ornate didn't really draw attention from the subject. THese walls in this series are warmer in color and have the pebbled texture. I am not sure what doesn't work about them, well what I like leess about them, perhaps they just aren't as nuetral as I thought they would be. I do like the play of light on the one with the long line of columns, and want to do a seior picture of my daughter there. I will update this post with a scan of the invitations made with these photos when I get back from vacation. They are incredible.
