SE: Watch Folder?

I have the impression that you can set a watch folder and, I hope, when ever you deposit something on the PC side it automatically gets upload to smugmug. True? How? I can't find it.

    Thanks Andy!

Well, it's not automated in a way that it will happen completely all by itself. It's not that it cannot be done (it can), but it's mainly a liability issue, when all of a sudden a lot of activity can be invoked by a seemingly innocent file copy operation. Along with the system hook for the folder watch, etc. modern trigger-happy anti-viruses will have a field day (I'm already getting some false positives on S*E).

    So, what can be done..

S*E has a capability to detect what's been uploaded already (Power/Pro Editions, limited for trials)

    Here are few steps:
    1. Locate the album(s) you want to be your target
    2. Right mouse button, select Check Online when Adding More Files.
The album will get a "checked" icon
    3. Go to Options (Ctrl+F11), Sync Upload tab and select Quick Check and Only for selected albums (you will see your album(s) in the list)
    4. click OK
    5. If you didn't use S*E for that album yet, highlight it and select Get Images Info.
From now on, any image you would add for upload to this album will be checked against its online version. In practice you can drop the same folder again and again, and only new images will be selected.

There are few other interesting bits and pieces, but that's the baseline.

Please let me know if you have any questions/concerns.

Note: to avoid extremely long delays, this feature only works against the cached data. If you use S*E all the time, you are already covered, otherwise you need to use Get Images Info command for the albums you're interested in.
"May the f/stop be with you!"
