Can I transfer my current web address to Smugmug?

Hello,
I already have a website that I manage on my own. I am considering opening one with smugmug. My question is, can I use the same web address? My web address is printed on all my business cards, and I would hate for it to change.

Thanks,

Shannon

    As Denise said, yes you can if you have a Pro account.

    or you can simply use your existing webspace as a portal for your galleries like I do. Makes it a bit easier to have a custom site thats not the same ol gallery. You can also use the RSS feeds to power your own galleries off smugmug....

    www.tallmanphoto.com is my own hosted service
    http://photos.tallmanphoto.com -> http://tmp.smugmug.com is the photo gallery

    I feel really dense about this, but I've yet to figure out how to do what "sirsloop" did for his domain. I have my own domain (www.robgreer.com) and I'd prefer to stop using robgreer.smugmug.com. I'd like to use photos.robgreer.com. I know how to create a subdomain pointer using my web site's domain tools, but I only know how to make it work on a subdirectory within my own domain on my regular server. Can anyone help? Is there something I need to do in my smugmug settings?

    Yep - you setup http://photos.robgreer.com as a CNAME Alias to www.smugmug.com with your domain host. Then you put photos.robgreer.com in the domain field of your SmugMug control panel.

    That's it! Questions?

    Rob,

    An "A" Record is a DNS entry (domain name system) that resolves something like www.smugmug.com to the actual IP address of the server. (www.smugmug.com -> 63.81.134.23). In other words without DNS you would need to type http://63.81.134.23 to reach smugmug.com.

    A "CNAME" record is a DNS entry that simply resolves one domain name into another one. So for example, photos.tallmanphoto.com is an alias for tmp.smugmug.com. There still needs to be an A record that eventually resolves into the IP address, which there is with tmp.smugmug.com.

    Anyways, in the mean time you can still build a website on your personal domain, and simply point gallery links to the smugmug page. Its just a little more attractive to have your own domain name in the gallery URL. Its confusing enough for people without them wondering, "Hey who the heck are these smugmug guys??"
