I was not sure which forum would be best for this image :dunno....hopefully I chose correctly. I've been working on a crystal ball effect, and have only achieved a fairly decent buble effect. I just wanted to share . C and C are welcome.

Here are the basic steps:
1. create new image that is 500pix X 500pix , 100dpi; white
2. create new layer, and fill it with black
3. on the new layer click filter-render-lens flare Set the flare to 100%, and 105 prime
4. click filter-distort-polar coordinates. Check polar to rectangle
5. click edit-transform-flip vertical
6. click filter-distort-polar coordinates. Check rectangle to polar
7. Select (using the eliptical marques tool) the sphere that was made
8. click select-inverse
9. Hit the delete key ,removing all but the sphere from the layer.
Now you have a basic bubble/sphere/planet shape, etc. .
From here I created another new image--whatever size you want the final image to be, and filled it black for the background. Then I selected the sphere, and added it to the new "final" background image. I used the burn tool to make the center look darker--so the bubble would seem more transparent ( I also tweaked the color, brightness, and contrast some). Then I made copies of the original sphere layer (control J), and used the transform tool to move, and resize each bubble. I then opened my flower image, selected the flower, and moved it onto the new final image.
I used the transform tool again to move and resize the flower. You can also click filter-distort-spherize, to make your flower (or whatever you want in the bubble) to look distorted by the bubble itself. Some of the tutorials also suggested the wave filter, using a guassian filter--whatever you want, to achieve the proper illusion.
I hope this was useful.
I got some from the NAPP website, and I also got some useful suggestions from D grin's finishing school forum
Here's the same bubble image, but with a car inside the main bubble instead of the flower.
