Very nicely done Gary! I love the older lady. What a face full of character. Do you have any more of her?

Almost up the street from my in-laws and, as many times as I've been to SJC, I've never been to the mission...

I love the shot of the wizened old woman and you have some great shots of the mission/gardens as well in your gallery. What were all the kids doing? Running a relay carrying glasses of lemonade on their heads?

Thanks Shelia. Nahhh, no more of the lady. I think she was with Father Serra who founded the mission. Seriously, I think she enjoyed the music more than anyone else at the festival .. and the music was very enjoyable ... very rich, flavorful and full of life.

    Hey Colleen-

The kids were from the 11th Marine Regiment. A couple of blocks away the City threw a party for the Marines who were heading back to Iraq. The party was very family oriented, games, music and food. It was sad to watch the children laugh and play knowing than some may never see their father again. Many of the Mariachi bands, after they performed in the competition went to the park and entertained the Marines and their families. A tribute to them and in a way all our service men in Iraq and Afganistan. Godspeed Marine.

    Gary

PS- The mission is wonderful. It is quite small but packed to the brim with photo opps.

Have to agree with the others. The first two are great, with the second being fantastic. The B&W conversion is lovely. What method do you use?
    C&C always welcomed.

    Cheers

I love the expression and tone of the second shot. The lines of age somehow seem more beautiful in B&W.

Thanks Christulk - I shoot in RAW and use DPP to convert RAW to JPEG. I also convert to B&W in DPP. (I find the DPP conversion easier and at least equal to Channel Mixer in Photoshop.)

Well, I'm going to be different and say my favourite of the three is the last one.
Maybe it's because I'm a sucker for WA, but I really think you have an excellent
photo there. A very unique view. Thanks for sharing.

I think sepia would ruin it.

The second one is a great portrait. When the soul shines through, even aged can be beautiful.
