Tree, Robin, Raptor, and Thistles
I've been unable to get out and shoot all summer. I got up at 5:30 this morning and headed for this river bed with a lot of trees around it about 3 miles from my home. I got there and decided to try the star thing I read about in another post.
I carefully stepped over the electric fence and found a very cooperative robin inside that same tree.
I walked down the creek bed listening to all the birds. This guy kept screaching. I figured it was me, but as he flew away, he was surrounded by a bunch of much smaller birds that seemed to be trying to run him off.
By this time the insects were starting to eat me, so I headed for the truck and went north up the creek a couple miles just to have a look around. I found these thistles and decided to take a few shots.
It was great to finally get out and play. Your comments are appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Hawks are always being pestered by smaller birds. I got a shot yesterday of a Redwinged Blackbird riding piggy-back on a Red-tailed Hawk.

We have a pair of King Birds that built a nest right above our front door. There are two eggs in it, but no babies yet. The Kildeer are running around like mad too. Soon we should have a bunch of little fluff balls with very long legs running around.

I liked the colors and I wasn't feeling steady enough (being bitten by flys and mosquitos) to get much closer. Tight macros are a lot of fun, but it can be nice to put the critter in some sort of context. Thanks for the input.

Thanks Dick. I was very excited to see a bird with what looks like a caterpillar in his beek. It was so dark under that tree and I was shooting at iso 100, that my shutter was down around 1/13 second. I just wish it was a bit crisper. Still a fun capture.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
