Digital Rebel dead?

My wife dropped our Rebel on the back patio after shooting some pics of our daughter. It fell off the tripod and hit the concrete squarely on the side (I saw it happen). Everything looks to be fine physically (small scratch) but it does not power up at all. I have changed the main battery, the 3 V battery, lenses. I even opened the back case (based on some instructions I found on the web) to the point that a soldering iron would be required. All the connectors I can see are connected.

Any other ideas?

Or should I start looking here and eBay for a replacement?

Sounds pretty dead to me. Canon Service could tell you more. But then...$$

    There's a 20D in the Flea Market :)

    Sorry the camera got dropped!
Thanks. I was afraid of that :cry
Just glad the lens seems intact.

I was hoping someone would say something like "oh yeah that happened to me. You just hold it upside down while standing on one leg during a full moon and then turn it on and it will be all better".

This is at least the second time the camera has met concrete (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=35150).

I told my wife that I was going to get her an Instamatic :D

A new tripod was going to be the next item but looks like it a "new" body AND a new tripod are in order.

Don't forget to close your eyes at the same time. Thats very important.

    ;p

I'm sure you can sell the broken body on Ebay. I bet it will fetch you a good 100 bucks or so for parts. Wish you all the luck!

Thought I would update everyone on this.

I remembered that my mother-in-law had a digital rebel which had the shutter die on her while in the Ukraine (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=50427)

She had me purchase a used one from dgrin flea market to replace it. (thanks dugmar! http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=50296 )

I had her send us her old one and transferred the electronics from her broken rebel to our broken rebel. I will post some pics of the operation later but we are SO excited that it actually works. I just had to share.

Rather than take up dgrin space and to play a bit with the journal style a little I made a gallery.

Wow, you have more nerve than a hear of constipated Dinosaures. I would never have the nerve to try that. I built a whole Amateur Radio station here but that kind of tight work is beyond what I would try.

    Good for you.

Very cool. With two dead cameras, there's nothing to lose--kind of helps with making you fearless.

Just what I was thinking. Those people who mod working cameras (e.g. removing the IR filter) are the ones who freak me out.

    Wow! Very, very cool!!!

(I'm the type to pull everything apart, too, but much more rarely can get it back together.)

    Congrats!
