I have a co-worker that is getting married in Florida but wanted some engagement shots done here in Arizona since this is where they now call home.

This was a first for me but feel pretty good about the hour I spent with her and her fiance today.

I lik'em...however all of them are side views. I do think the pictures are extremely sharp and very well posed.

    Good job.

Nice job Aaron! The desertscape is beautiful with the rolling hills behind them. Some great starbursts. What did you use in the way of flash (off camera? diffusion?) Just curious!

    Seneca-

There are a couple front view photos but I was trying to hide her tan lines since I do not carry tan in a can. :D

Thank you saurora for your comments-

As far as flash it was on camera and used a small bounce card until it got later and then shot direct flash with the attached diffuser. I stepped the flash down as well to try and reduce the flash effect- don't know the specific details - I shoot by eye not calculations- ne_nau.gif

Guess I'm not that smart. rolleyes1.gif

    Thanks again!

    Aaron-

I really LOVE the first one, the conversion, contrast and lighting are all amazing. you might want to try Scott Quier's "kiss tute" in the future to avoid the smushed faces.

The others are great, too, I love the use of the sunset and silhouettes. The last one is nice, too, her tan lines look fine and I don't stress about this as a photographer. Rest assured women look at themselves in the mirror before being photographed and had a chance to use makeup, bronzer or self tanner to correct those, so don't stress yourself out over it.

    Lynne- thank you so much!

It means a lot to have received the comments from those that have comented- I admire all of you and the work you put forth.

I will look into the "kiss tute" as well.

    How did you do that?
Excellent photos. How did you keep the sky from being washed out or the couple from being a silhouette in shot #2?

I'm not that smart with flash either, Aaron, which is why I like to ask and read alot about how others handle it. Someday maybe I'll be more comfortable with it. :D

    Here is the EXIF
    Basic

    Date Modified2007-07-08 21:37:05
    Date Taken2007-07-08 19:19:55
    CameraOLYMPUS IMAGING CORP. E-500
    Exposure Time0.0125s (1/80)
    Aperturef/14.0ISO100
    Focal Length17mm (34mm in 35mm)
    Photo Dimensions2629 x 2104
    File NameP7084007.JPG
    File Size1.37 MB

    Detailed

    Flashflash fired, compulsory flash mode
    Exposure Programmanual
    Exposure Bias0
    EVLight Sourceunknown
    Color SpacesRGB

So by using a higher apeture and shutter speed of 1/80 I was able to get the sun flare without washing out the sky too much ( a little more than I wanted) and use the flash to fill in the light on the couple.

I would usually shoot a slower shutter with flash but then it was washing out the sky- this was pretty much the fine line. May not be technically right ne_nau.gif but it worked. :D

    Hope that helps.

Aww- just throw it on and start playing with it. Make the $0.33 bounce card out of craft material or bounce it off walls and ceilings.

I step down the power to -03 or -07 all the time unless I really need to light up a dark area.

I am currently doing a company event that is lasting almost all week. Making me a little crazy playing with the flash all day. :bash
