All shot on a blackberry bush. Hand held, full flash exposure, 1:1 magnification, M mode, f11.
Sigma macro, 150 mm fl, Nikon close up flash.
Pic 1
Pic 2. Some sort of wasp??
Pics 3 & 4.
In pic 4 the bug is in the throes of childbirth. Must have been an ordeal because I found her on the same bud next morning.
You can see two of the litle (brown) fellows here. They just crawled off into the bush to fend for themselves.
Plenty of bees and bumblebees, but the dear:humungus things wouldn't cooperate. :rofl

#1 is a dance fly, Empididae- probably Empis species.
#2 is one of the social wasps
#3 is a beetle- not sure but may be one of the chafer beetles

Thanks Awais, I appreciate your encouragement.
Hmm.... The wasps head is also a little out of focus?? Maybe I'll nail it next chance.
Thanks for the help Brian, I was hopeing you would have som info to offer.
The wasp wasn't threatening to me nor I to it.
Didnt mind posing for the camera at all.
Hence social??
Thanks also for the pointer on composition.
Will try to incorporate that.
The manual focusing thing is still looming fairly large though.
Yes, odd little fellow Skippy.
Body of a beetle and markings like a bumble bee.
Could be some sort of camoflage??
Fairly static and quite thankful to shoot pics of.
The bush was a goldmine for macro.
