web hosting for nonprofit photography group?

I'm part of a local nonprofit photography group that is just beginning to organize.

One of our pressing priorities is to get up a web site - for publicity and communication purposes. We do have a google groups site, but that's a very temporary solution.

We've registered the domain name. We don't have it hosted anywhere (yet). Does anyone have any experience with organizations that specialize or offer special discounts for groups such as ours?

At first what's important is just getting our basic information online, and for that purpose I could have it hosted on one of the many sites that offer "limited" plans. However, at some point we will want to be able to upload images for sharing, possibly have some sort of forum feature, and have multiple log-ins so that more than one person can maintain the site. We would design the site ourselves... but may be open to some sort of templated version.

This group is regional, so most visitors to the site will most likely be local.

Any suggestions on things that have worked really well for you? I'd be especially interested in anyone using SmugMug in this capacity, and links to your site - and your experiences.

thanks,
teresa

    That's really incredible.
It never occurred to me that would even be something you'd offer. I posted here because of the incredible customer service, and thinking if nothing else - I would offer to pay for a year of SM to get them going.

The fast and positive response floored me. So I then stayed up all night starting a site, I was so excited!

Andy, Ivar and Markham and all the others at SM - you're my heroes!
