I've been shooting this lady for a few days now. Darters are creatures of habit, and I always find her hunting in the same peach tree :)

First up is a closeup taken with Canon's 100mm macro and a 500D diopter.

Then I switched to using an MPE-65mm. Images range from life size to 3x.

    Great close-ups.
So, what's the difference between a darter and a dragonfly?

    Thanks Skippy!

Most of them are not cooperative. For every dragonfly that I shoot there are 20 or 30 that I don't bother trying to photograph because I know they won't sit still. I look for the critters that are feeding, cleaning themselves, or mating. If they are occupied then my chances of getting close are pretty good -it's just technique... mwink.gif

Try to find one that's feeding or mating. More tips here.

None -a darter is just a species of dragonfly.
