Soon after I read about your thread on small birds, I went outside to water the garden, with my camera 'round my neck:rolleyes
I have been trying to get a half decent picture of a towhee forever.they are flighty and twitchy things......I think I may have one.not great, but recognizable? He was directly over my head.lol.and I had my 300 zoom lens on........so I had to back up. quickly..lol.and focus..he didn't move! I also got this grosbeak, but he is not sharp at all....it was brilliant outside, and over the birdseed bed he washed out....:dunno

Hey... don't sell yourself short. These are a lot better than many of my early attempts. Good work. It pays to be prepared.

That Towhee looks very nice. I love birds with eyes that just stand out such as the GBH, the bald eagle or in this case, the towhee. Good job. That second shot is fine too. It is a tad soft, but nothing some USM in Photoshop couldn't fix probably. But are you sure that is a grosbeak? Around my parts that would be a lark sparrow, but I am not sure where you are so this could be a grosbeak. ne_nau.gif

:D Its a juvenille Black Headed Grosbeak.looks to be female so far.Its just a tad smaller than a robin right now.they get to be about 17-20 cm.and they are rather secretive during the summer, but this year we have had a good show.

Nice shots Emmalou! thumb.gif The smaller birds are the hardest to get good pictures of. I have a lot of pictures bare branches!
