(Mostly) Empty Streets

The summer heat is intense in Madrid, so the best time to go shooting is early morning. Since most people here stay up late at night (dinnertime is around 10PM), there aren't many people on the street.

BTW, the overwhelming majority of Spaniards today would love to see bullfighting prohibited, but special interests prevent that from happening. Sound familiar?

Thanks for looking. C&C always welcome.

Cheers,

    Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh-ha! I spy a person in your shot rolleyes1.gif
and wouldn't ya know it, they're on a mobile rolleyes1.gif

    I really like your B&W's Richard clap.gif

I have been to Spain only once, we also went to a Bull fight,
    but we all walked out.

I have no idea what I thought Bull fighting would be all about,
but I was so shocked at how cruel it was, I was with about 45
other people, we all left after seeing the first event.

It was just aweful, I was like ohhhh my gawwwd this is soooo wrong.

Be danged if I'd call it a sport! Nothing Sporting about what they do.

Love your shots Richard thumb.gif .... Skippy

Many thanks, Skippy. I appreciate your comments.

I have never been to a bullfight, and consider them barbaric, as do most people I know here. I just can't understand how anyone can enjoy such cruelty. ne_nau.gif

Love this set Richard....great B&W conversion and the sense of quiet and stillness in these shots is very appealing. Well, that makes sense that "special interests" keeps such a cruel sport alive. I'm sure it is believed it would drive down tourism if it were ended. Seems to me Spain has much more to offer than just that. Would make a good subject for the current Challenge. mwink.gif

I love the juxtaposition in this image: the heroic figure in the background pointing the way forward; the mundane figure in the foreground, talking with someone (I imagine) to figure out how the hell to install this roll of cable.

Glad you liked them, Susan. As for the special interests, well, some people would lose out, I'm sure, but the tourism industry is very strong here. If a few people decide to go watch cockfights in Bali instead of bullfights in Seville, I don't think it would affect the overall economy at all. Good riddance, if you ask me, which nobody does.

Cheers, George. There are some more street shots here, mostly in color, but the ones I posted are my favorites.

Thanks, Tom. thumb.gif That's what I was going for--the imposing institution (it's the Royal Historical Academy) and the humble worker. I'm really glad you noticed the statue inside, as I had to futz with the contrast a lot to make it visible at all. :D
