What lenses do you need this to work with? Most Canon lenses will not autofocus with the 2x extender, some will with the 1.4x. My understanding is that many have gotten lenses to autofocus with the Sigma or Kenko 2x extenders.

I actually using mainly manual mode on my macro shots I currently have a tamron 100mm lens with a older mount with a adapter that allows me to mount it to the EOS body. but I am also planning to sell it soon and get a Canon 100mm USM mount lens so I would say that is what this will end up on..

Sigma specifies the lenses their convert4ers will work with.....both Sigma and Kenko are good companies to deal with for after market.....of course if you have the money then camera brands are usually best to keep with.....

In the case of TCs, actually going OEM is a more limiting option. Canon's TCs have a protruding element, so are incompatible with a lot of lenses, and cannot be easily stacked (if you really want to). So, the aftermarket ones are generally preferred. I am looking at the Kenko Pro 300 DG, it comes highly recommended.

Any reason you don't want extension tubes? You won't have extra glass in there mucking up the image quality - you just lose light and get a closer working distance...

be sure to post a review with whichever TC you end up getting. especially if you get the kenko 300, i've been thinking about picking one up myself...
