I read somewhere (I surf alot to find digital photography info) that a film camera flash unit fires at a different voltage signal. I also remember that it said that this could damage either the flash or digital camera (I don't remember which). Can any one shed any light on this subject?

yes, a flash unit made for older film cameras can damage digital cameras. Verify that the flash unit you are looking at is compatible before using it..

There is also a tigger unit ( that goes between the flash and camer pc connection or shoe) that will protect the camera...cannot remember what its name is but think it is made by Wein.........

Thank you very much for your replies.
I was wanting to use a flash I have from my days with film cameras, but, it looks like I would be better off buying another.
$50 puts me almost halfway to a new digital Nikon flash (I use a Nikon D40 camera). Thanks again.
