I never knew we had these guys in Illinois but I found a breeding pair. They are considered an uncommon migrant here so to find a nest is pretty special. Hope you like.

Great catch, Nick. Glad you found the nest. These birds are magnificent and I never tire of watching them. I might get out later this week and see if I can find some chicks. Rain is forecast for the next 3 days so it may not happen until the weekend.

Beautiful picture, and a great sighting around here for sure.

Ya know....I live in South Elgin and I see them occasionally.....There is a nest out on an island on the Fox River - on the east side, just north of Saint Charles (Valley View). I have also seen them in some old abandoned strip mines north of Wayne.

Small world Matt . I shoot a lot near South Elgin .
On rte 25 and West Bartlett road , near some new baseball/softball fields , there is a nest on top of "yup , you heard right" 1 of the tall lights around the field .
We should get together and I'll show you my prime spots for GBH's !!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

Nice shot Nick, I sure wish that I could have hooked up with you, but we definately stayed out too late the night before. Maybe we can get back to the nest in the near future, would enjoy getting some shots of these guys doing some fishing if we can get reasonably close to the water.

Where do I start? I invited Nick to go shoot some Osprey, but I couldn't make it because I was out too late with my family listening to our favorite Journey tribute band until 1:30am. Six o'clock on Sunday morning came much too quickly for this rapidly-aging body to get up and put together my gear. Getting older stinks.....but the music was well worth the sleep deprivation. wings.gif

We saw ARRA when they played at Govenor's Public House in Lake in the Hills. My daughter saw them on Sunday in Glendale Hts. We are going to see them again tomorrow in Plainfield. We saw Infiniti at Heritage Festival in Downers Grove last month.

Thanks for the invite for the Starved Rock trip, but the neighbors are having a party on Saturday which we have commited to and I work on Sunday. But thanks for the offer.

Thanks for looking everyone. Glad you liked the shot. Mike I've found a lot of good places to shoot since the last time you were up here. Give me a shout the next time you're in town. Frank, with a blind and some patience I think fishing shots would be great. We'll have to put something together.
