I took these while trying out the new Gitzo CF tripod that arrived today.

1D MkIIn, 500/4L IS, 25mm Ext. Tube II

Is that last one a lark?It is so sharp!

The first 1 appears there is a halo around the head/bill . Is this from lighting or sharpening ??
The last 1 is incredibly sharp , and he/she is so cute !!!!
How close were you Harv ???

Thanks a lot, Walt. I don't think that's a result of sharpening. These had almost no sharpening applied. I suspect it's just the way the light played on that shot.

The last shot is a female rose-breasted grosbeak. The distance for that shot would have been about 10-12 feet.

Lol.I was going to say grosbeak, but then I thought of what Maestro had said about my pic of the grosbeak looking like a lark...so I took a 50 /50 chance....:D

I figure the best I normally come up with is 50/50. At least at that you have an even chance of being correct.

For the record, I worked hard for many years so I could enjoy my retirement. I now collect Canada Pension and Old Age Pension. That means I'm at least 65 years of age. I don't see my kids standing at the gravesite throwing my money in after me. I don't plan on leaving an inheritance so I may as well spend it while I can still use what it buys.

Thanks, Stephen. The tube oviously allows closer focus and can sometimes be beneficial. It does take away the longer focus distances though.
