Digital Photography Clubs??

So last week I spent time presenting at our local Camera Owners of Bay Area (COBA) group. http://coba.tow.com/ Adam Tow is the organizer as well as a passionate SmugMugger: http://tow.smugmug.com/

Anyway, I was scheduled to take 45 min and talk about SmugMug and ended up talking over 2 hours answering all kinds of questions. At the end I donated a few 1-year free Pro accounts to winners of their photo contest and met some great people. :thumb

(One person asked me why we don't do these all over the country? I would love to but that would cause some strife in the casa with my 8 month pregnant wife :lust)

I have been thinking, we need to do more for these passionate people. They are hungry for information on how SmugMug works. There were only a handful of people in the room that even had photo sharing accounts. (Flickr, Pbase etc) But for the majority of the 30ish people there, they were very open to understanding what we had to offer. They were blown away with most of the info and functionality I was showing them.

So here is the deal. Bring me your Photography Clubs! I want to talk to the organizers and start donating prizes, giveaways, free prints, free accounts etc to them. I want to donate a free Pro account to the organization to host their photo contests or assignments.

Whoever can get me in the door to their local Digital Photography classes, clubs or owners groups, I will give them enough free credits on their current SmugMug account to make it worth their time :thumb

    Markham -
Have you looked at any of the photo workshops or training programs? I am thinking of Santa Fe Workshop (which I've met several smugmuggers/dgrinners at), Rocky Mountain, Maine Photographic, et al. On the classes, places like Knowledge Works on the west coast.

Not clubs, but lots of beginners and mid-level folks obviously looking to take it to the next level.

I checked with my club president for Nature and Wildlife Photographers of Long Island (NWPLI) and he's interested in speaking with you. He is a long time SmugMugger (http://www.westhighland-imaging.com/). I PM'ed his e-mail address to you.

Yes, when I first started at SmugMug 3 years ago, I pounded hard on Santa Fe workshop, but nothing really came of it. Our offering was a bit weak back then with regards to some of the Pro features we offer now.

I would LOVE to talk to any contacts you have over at any of them. If you can PM me with any, I'd be grateful.

    Thanks,

Yea, we'd be interested. We already have a smugmug page for the group as well. But we recently have a fresh batch of members without a gallery online, so they may be interested in joining.

Feel free to contact me and we can arrange something if you are interested.

I do, for NYBZPS, Sharon Gumerove, nybzps.org@verizon.net
I do not have an email yet for the other group, it is done through the website which does not give you the actual email. I will get it to you when I can.
