Hi,

Im hoping to open a smugmug account soon but have a few questions regarding resolution and DPI.

I will be uploading both photos taken from a digital camera as well as some from a film camera I scanned from mostly 4x6 photos.

What is the best dpi for scanning? My default is set up as 300DPI. is this ok ?

Also im confused about the relationship (if any) between resolution and dpi. some photos I scanned have resolution of around 1768 x 1188 @ 300dpi while photos from the digital camera are 3072 x 2304 @ 72DPI.

Would the digitals provide better prints at the larger sizes ?

Thanks a lot.

    DPI is dots per inch.

Make your scans at 300dpi, that's fine.

Upload, and print from, your max file sizes - the dimensions of the file. Don't otherwise change the files from your camera. We'll handle the rest, upon print, as needed:
