I am continually running into a dilemma and am hoping there is a better way to tackle it.
For sessions initiated by me in order to test out a new technique, or modeling for a contest entry etc, I waive my normal session fee, and drastically cut print prices in exchange for the favor.
But, these folks are also great word-of-mouth spreaders and I don't want to discourage them from forwarding the gallery links to friends and family to see (and order!) BUT, this creates some sticky ground, because I really only want the first party to have the discount, and I also don't want to generate frustration by showing cut rates with potential (or even in some cases, current) clients.
Currently, in these situations I generate two galleries, one private and discounted, one public and "retail"? and tell the first party to only forward the "public" one to friends and family. That's how I'm doing it now, and its a huge PITA. Plus I can't really see or know who they've forwarded which gallery to, since the email stats only show number of reads and clicks, not how many forwards.
To get around this, can I generate a guest logon for the gallery "owner" and when they're logged in, they always get either discounted pricing, or worst case, smugmug pricing with no proof delay?
(Or is smugmug releasing discount codes for pros next week and I don't have to worry? :rofl)
This is also starting to be a problem with weddings. If the B&G purchase a CD from me, I am inclined to drop their print & product rates....but not for every tom dick and harry who attended the wedding.

Thanks Andy, I was afraid of that! I'll keep on keepin' on.
Oh and BTW, this weekend, I was looking at a karaoke list and saw the song "Moon River" artist: "Andy Williams". DUH! I felt like I was on the Mr. Obvious show...."Huh, i never made the connection!"

Thank goodness Scott that someone besides me grew up in that era!!! I remember watching that show on television every week as well as my Mom playing his albums on the old family stereo (or should I say "hi-fi"?). I really feel my age some days on this forum.....
