Red heads on a rock, in the trees and more! (My latest shoot)

Just a few. These were all taken with my old camera (10D) because my new one (5D) is still in the shop. They turned out pretty well, considering. But this camera is staring to give me a LOT of grief - restarting, corrupted photos, etc. Ugh! Luckily NONE of that happened at the shoot. Whew!

Anyway, this was actually two families and the matriarch

(Bummed that the little girl's eye's were almost closed, but otherwise I like this photo.)

He was SO cute and sweet!

The kids were nuts! So cute....

These were taking on my 10D with my NEW Sigma 70-200 f/2.8. I LOVE it! The quality rocks! I have to get used to holding it (it's HEAVY!), but it takes some really sweet shots.

I love the green and the red! Would you get rid of the trunk on the left? I keep going back and forth.
176555650-M-3.jpg

A bit "flashy", but I love the layout. If I had done this with my 5D, I would have raised the ISO and shot with less flash. But I couldn't on the 10D without too much grain showing up. Bummer. (The only photo, for the most part, that I was bummed not to have the 5D) Oh, and I need to get rid of the leaves in the lower right - I'll do that if they order it.

The other problem I had was getting used to the different crop factor. Going from FF to 1.6X was a bit tough, but certainly not horrible. The absolute hardest thing, though, was that the 10D is sooooooo slooow compared to the 5D and the buffer is SO much smaller! Ah, well! At least the photos turned out decent!

You can see more here: http://tippiepics.smugmug.com/gallery/3202224 Please feel free to comment on them there (or here)! I also made a few comments on some of these and a few others there....

Thanks for peeking! Any and all CC is always welcome!

    Andi,

I really like the first and the last as well.

As for the eyes in #1, this is probably preaching to the choir, but I always take multiple exposures of groups for just this reason. With five people, I'll take at least 3 and usually 5 or 6. Larger groups, the number goes up by it's not a linear function.

Worst come to worst, it's always possible to copy eyes from one exposure to another to fix.

Andi, these are really great! Clearly the photographer is more important than the camera.

My personal favorite is the last one. It might be a bit flashy, but I think that really helps the people pop out from the darker background. I suspect they would want that one printed large and displayed prominently in their home.

    Nice job!!

You know, I did take two or three photos here (I need to go back and look - I've switched heads many times and eyes a few times, but I'm thinking I don't have another to switch with) and I usually have a few shots and then look to make sure eyes are open at the end of that pose. But in this case, using the 10D, I couldn't because it was SOOO slow.

BUT! I was chatting with Lynne (Urbanaries) and she taught me something that I still go "doh" about. I got some new batteries for my 580EX and I'll set it on burst mode and shoot a bunch of shots of the same pose very rapidly and THEN I should be able to get what I need! I hope! (GREAT idea!)

I'll figure it out if they end up ordering it. That little girl was a PISTOL and stuck her tongue out, made funny faces, everything! Laughing.gif! Funny when you notice it, but not so funny when you realize too late.

Thanks, though!! I appreciate your feedback and your comments!

thanks so much, Art!! I am in love with that lens! It's really amazing. I'm not big on heavy lenses (who is?), but it's worth the weight because it's so wonderful.

    Thanks again!

You definitely won't regret that purchase! Just be aware that you need a fast shutter speed and that's it's a HEAVY lens and you'll do fine. Lynne (my hero) turned me onto it!! It's awesome.

And thanks so much for your comments!

Mitchell, you made my day! Thank you so much. I've been doubting myself as a photographer lately - and whether or not I can take photos with other cameras - and haven't been happy with the results. So to hear you say that really puts a smile on my face. Thank you so much!

And that would rock if they got a big one!

    Thanks again, all!
