    After some Googling, I'm going to guess it's an adult Cooper's Hawk.

    Beautiful subject and a great capture. Well done. The image quality is excellent. I've heard many good things about that lens and these images would bear them out.

    Thanks guys - there were actually a number of other shots up in the tree done in portrait position - one was a great stare. My lens (an early model) still hasn't had the fix done yet for the known portrait-orientation softness problem and I was disappointed to see the results in most of them. Otherwise, yes, it's a great lens for what it is.
