okay, I have a problem, which can be solved one of two ways, neither of which I know if it is possible:

the photos seem grainy when I put them on an iDVD and put them on my HD TV - they have visible vertical lines - so is it possible:

1) to stop iPhoto from resizing the photos so much when importing them to the library?

2) not have to upload the photos from iPhoto into iDVD? instead, inporting them straight from the HD?

thank you so much for taking the time!

Not sure if this is what you guys are trying to do, but under the file menu there is an export comand. One of the tabs says Quicktime, which allows you to export your images as a slideshow. You can set the image dimention you want there. If you're trying to just share them to iDVD, it will down-size them to VGA, or standard definition.

You can also make slideshows, with a little more creativity in iMovie. Basically import an image, and you can specify the duration of each image and the overall resolution of your movie.

I use a PC - don't know anything about iPhoto or iDVD, but in case this might help, here's what I do in Photoshop when I make a movie with photos:

    * Resize each photo to 720 x 480 pixels
    * Set the Pixel Aspect Ratio to D1/DV NTSC
    or to D1/DV NTSC Widescreen
    * Apply the NTSC Colors filter (under Filters -> Video)

My movie software (Vegas) works better with the smaller files, and setting the aspect ratio keeps the images from looking stretched on the TV.

This doesn't create true HD images, but the movies always look good on my HD TV.

Not sure if it will help you to resize your photos first instead of letting iPhoto do it, but it might be worth a shot.

First off, I don't think iPhoto resizes when it imports. It just imports.

Also, I do believe that you can make slideshows directly in iDVD without going through iPhoto, but I'm not sure.

In v6.0.3 (maybe earlier, that's just what I have) you can use the "Add Slideshow" feature, though it seems to make a border around all of the images. It looks like you can control duration and transitions from there.

I generally edit in iMovie and then export as a Full Quality DV, which I then drop into iDVD. Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to batch control transitions and duration from there without importing from iPhoto, so once I have my images all set, I usually create a iPhoto album and drop them into there first.

I haven't noticed any grain or distortion, but I've only viewed mine on standard def tvs. Are you starting out by making a 16:9 project? Does it look any different playing on your mac?

    Hey David-

The OP was asking about exporting, not importing. iDVD canot make a slideshow. iMovie, on the other hand, can.

His question 1) was about importing. Yeah, I wasn't sure about iDVD, it's been so long since i used it. iMovie might be worth a try.
