Still working on the IDs for both of them. First up is a critter with way too much fur for this time of year
All Canon gear: Xti (manual mode F14, 1/200, ISO 100) + MPE-65mm macro lens. MT-24EX with home made diffusers.

And the 3x shot that frustrated me. I had this composition in my head and this is the best I could do. I'm about 2mm off -next time... :cry
Last is a couple of 2x shots of a different species:

I'm curious though and forgive my ignorance. But I understand the point of a macro lense but have never used one. How close are you actually to the subject to get these shots? I cheat and use close-up lens filters but that means that for instance in my spider shots, I have to be rediculously close to the subject.
I am in the market for a good macro lens any suggestions?
I think photos of something that frightens me that much(deathly allergic to them) are amazing, it's very nice work indeed.
