Still working on the IDs for both of them. First up is a critter with way too much fur for this time of year :D

All Canon gear: Xti (manual mode F14, 1/200, ISO 100) + MPE-65mm macro lens. MT-24EX with home made diffusers.

Life size.

2x:

And the 3x shot that frustrated me. I had this composition in my head and this is the best I could do. I'm about 2mm off -next time... :cry

Last is a couple of 2x shots of a different species:

Beautiful color and detail! That first bug has got to be one of the hairiest bees I've ever seen.

Love the look of concentration on it's face in the second shot.

    They're quite nice, yes.

I'm curious though and forgive my ignorance. But I understand the point of a macro lense but have never used one. How close are you actually to the subject to get these shots? I cheat and use close-up lens filters but that means that for instance in my spider shots, I have to be rediculously close to the subject.

I am in the market for a good macro lens any suggestions?

I think photos of something that frightens me that much(deathly allergic to them) are amazing, it's very nice work indeed. :)
