Duplicate files with Rebel XT

When I downloaded my pictures from yesterday there were a handful that were duplicated on the CF card. They would be named like IMG_1234.jpg and IMG_1234-2.jpg, exact same image. I haven't experienced this before but I was shooting with a brand new sandisk ultra2 card, could it be something with that, or more likely the camera?

Do you actually see the duplicates on the card or do they show up only in the folder on your computer? What software are you using to download?

Ive run into this problem before *on my computer*. My camera's number files sequentially up to 9999. After you get to 9999 it goes back to 0000 and you'll get dupes. The camera will download these to your computer, and add a -2, -3, -4 on the end to prevent overwrite. The solution is to download photos into dated folders. I set mine like....

    d:\Photos
    -2003
    -2004
    -2005
    -2006
    --2006_01_13
    -2007
    --2007_01_01
    --2007_01_30

Keeps things in order and you can always find stuff by date. Only time you'll ever have problems is if you take more than 10,000 photos in one day, or you have two or more camera's shooting on the same number (that happens to me sometimes).
