Stupid question.

I am still looking around for a place to buy my first DSLR, and I had narrowed it down to B&H and Adorama until I came across broadwayphoto.com and found that they had the camera I will be purchasing (Canon XTi) for about 100.00 cheaper than the two previously mentioned sites.

The question I have is in regards to the product description on broadway photo. They list the camera as an EOS Kiss X. :scratch I have no idea what Kiss X means and although I didn't really put a whole lot of effort into it, I couldn't find anything online. For all I know, there is no difference between an EOS and an EOS Kiss X, but if there is I would like to know. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Shane

You might want to look in the "Buying a Camera? How To Not Get Ripped Off" thread - http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=374 - at the head of this forum. There are some pretty bad (recent) stories there about Broadway Photo (under various names).

If it were me, I'd stick with B&H (although I've heard good things about Adorama too, I just can't give you a personal recommendation since I haven't bought anything from Adorama - where I have from B&H).

Broadway has been listed on several forums as a scam site...pay slightly more and go with a reputable dealer. B&H and Adorama are both solid resellers....B&H being the more established IMO.

You need to check out resellerratings.com. These guys have a rating of only .65 out of ten. All the postings use the same word: scam.

    Stick with the known guys.

Regarding the Kiss name, it's the Japanese name for the Rebel line. There's no difference in the camera itself, although some versions of the kit lens on some Kisses feature a micro USM motor - lucky Japanese :(:. Check out the "International naming" section (near the top) here: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/CanonEOS400D/page2.asp

Thank you all very much for your responses. I have been checking several sites and finding out that a lot of these are scam sites but I guess the fact that I saw a two page add in a PCPhoto magazine made me not really think to even check broadway.....oops, that will teach me. I'm going to go with B&H as they have a sligtly better price and that seems to be the more reputable of the two according to most I have talked to.

B&H is probably the most legit place there is, they are the gold standard against which the others are compared. You cannot go wrong there. thumb.gif

15524779-Ti.gifnod.gif - This is my first, and usually my last, stop when I'm shopping for camera gear. I have never been burned by them and never expect to. 100% legit!

You might check with onecall.com as well. I've had numerous good experiences. Their selection is not as wide as B & H though.

there's a reason why i'm a repeat customer to B&H. i've heard good things about Adorama as well.

avoid the scammer sites like the plague. if it looks too good to be true, it most likely is.

i'm also not a fan of tristate camera. they have aggressive sales tactics, crappy customer service, even during pre-sales and worse during post-sales, and i've gotten suspect lenses from them.

of course there's also calumet camera. you'll pay retail but you're dealing with a national chain.
