Is 50mm too long for 300D everyday?

I'm going on a trip in a couple months and as much as I'd love a good mid-range zoom to add to my collection, it's just not in the budget right now. I'm wondering if the 50mm 1.8 is a good compromise between 10-22 and 70-200? I feel it might be too long for the Rebel and I'd end up ignoring it in favor of the 10-22. Its…

idk... other than noisy AF, no-USM, no FTMF, and softness from f/2-2.8... i'm a happy camper with the 35/2. Sigma fills in those gaps with the 30/1.4 at a price and border softness. IDK... its a tossup. Every lens has its quirks. If its not in image quality, its in weight, build, etc etc (17-55IS and 70-300IS comes to mind for the latter)
