Yipee!!! I love it, love it, love it.

I love how i don't have to bump up ISO over 100 for inside shots, NO GRAIN!! I'm talking 9pm with some lamp light :rolleyes and i'm just using my internal "pop-up" flash. Great low-light lens!!!

I love how sharp it is!!

Good lens, i think everyone should have one in their bag. For the price, it's worth every little penny! :thumb

Here are some try outs. My model is of course, my little niece :barb

I hardly touched anything on this images, except conversion to B&W.

    Marina,

Oh my gosh! What incredibly beautiful pictures!

I bought a fantastic plastic the same day I got my 24-105 f/4L, a couple months ago. It's stayed in my bag, as I'm in love with the 24-105 right now.

That's a shame, as I agree it's a wonderful lens. I really need to give it some exercise.

Having the 50 on my camera reminds me of the "good old days" of my T70 when I was in High School. It was my only lens for the longest time; if I wanted a zoom, I had to borrow my Dad's 35-105, which was always on his AE-1.

I miss the simplicity of those days.

    Regards,
    Wes

My main lens is 18-200, but it's really not as good in the low-light as this little one. :D

I think my 24-105 f/4L is the main reason I haven't bought the 50 f/1.8 yet, but considering these pics I may have to go out and get one, you got fabulous results with it! I love the eyes, they really pop :)

Shima, i highly recommend this lens. I know nothing about 24-105, but at this point i don't want to know Laughing.gif. It's really affordable, i paid $100.00 for lens and filter together. Can't beat that!! thumb.gif

I've got the same lens and it's a killer! As a man, though, I have to have some good self confidence to whip it out and throw it on the SLR. It's so small!

Only thing is you really have to watch your DOF when you're open wide...it's easy to make it too thin. Didn't seem to be a problem with my 18-200 at 200 and 5.6...ne_nau.gif:D

    Nice shots!

I guess the only downside is my wife will have to focus manually on her D40ne_nau.gif

Dang...that's what I'm getting from the Nikon website...

"***Autofocus [of the D40] is supported only with AF-S and AF-I CPU lenses, which are equipped with built-in motors.)."

which I think the 50 1.8 is NOT.

Canoga camera has the thrifty fifty for $69.99 for a USA model.
I've had this as a newb and sold it, only to rebuy it to replace a Tamron 17-50. The bokeh is much better with the fifty than with the zoom.

Only thing to look out for is that the 5 aperture blades produce a pentagon shaped bokeh from af4-8 or so. So for good bokeh, I use f1.8 to less than f4.

It gets pretty sharp from just past f2, I think it's sharpest by around f4-5.6.

I didn't get anything else for it as it ruins the bargain feeling to have filters and hoods. The inner part of the barrel extens as you focus, and with such recessed front element, I think it's fine without a hood. Also without a hood, the popup flash is high enought that you don't get a shadow on the bottom of the image from the hood.

After I got mine, two other members got one as well.
