I'd like to know if there is a way to see where a image is being linked from. I know I can do this on my own webserver. I was wondering if this is available here.

Not just how many hits but what the actual URL is that the photo link is coming from.

(Whoops.. in re-reading, you are looking for linking from outside smugmug? I haven't tried this with statcounter and since the image is being pulled without the page, never mind!!)

smugMug currently does not, but statcounter does and they offer it free for a log size of 500. Easy to include the code in smugMug. Keeping more data costs.. However I think it is a great tool and think so much of it I ended up signing up for the 10,000 level.

Thanks, this is similar to what Google Analytics does and Google's is free.

Google imbeds some small code into your page (well you do) and Google parses the information and gives you stats like, visitors, how long they were on the site, where they came from(referral link). It's pretty basic.

What I need would be smugmug server based. Something very similar to a raw stats log which is parsed just for my account. What I want to find out is if there are people using my photos in ways they are not supposed to be using them. This would be the only way to track it from the back end as there is no way to embed code into the image itself.

I worked in web hosting for several years, and the gold standard is "Webtrends" which is insanely expensive but gives you fantastic statistics. I'm using google analytics and for free, it is pretty damn good.
