    Excellent series John - love the detail. Interesting it has different focal length or at least aperture lenses in the top and bottom halves of the eye :)

    It's not really an issue of focus, but working out the aperture settings at each magnification. Stopping down too much (my initial mistake) just makes an image uniformly soft. But stopping down a little, and looking for angles that make the most out of a paper thin depth of field, is giving me better results. It also depends on what you're shooting and how much diffraction you're willing to live with.

    I've gone back to using the hacked Novoflex Chest Pod -a monopod was too limiting.

    Thanks Brian! Dragonflies use the lenses at the top of the eye when hunting -that's why they strike from below the victim.
