First time lightning
This was my first shot at lightning and my first time using my XTi at Bulb. I did use my XT at bulb to catch the stars in Africa.
I've always wanted to catch lighting but never had a descent vantage point.
Last night I managed to drive into the most impressive lightshow I've seen from mother nature in a few years in NY! The constant and frequent strikes were amazing! I was driving from the Tappan Zee bridge to Manhattan and the storm encompassed the entire 20+ miles I drove (Tarrytown to Manhattan) plus it was moving at 10MPH (weather.com). Unfortunately, being in the middle of it and the buffer time between shots caused me to miss some good strikes. I don't know what was more amazing though, seeing the lighting or seeing the crazy people walking through it with their umbrellas wide open as I drove through the Bronx!
1. first shot camera on top of car - Right after there was a huge fork camera right and I hopped right back in my car.
ISO 100, 34 secs, f7.1, manual focus infinity
2. b&w
3. That was dumb let me put it on the dash.
ISO 100, 29 secs, f 7.1
4.
ISO 100, 40 secs, f5.6
Thanks for looking.

"Natura artis magistra"
If am am being 100% honest... I wish they were sharper, and didn't have the trail of cars. But then again... it's easy to sit and tell how to... :-) I have never ever had a chance what so ever to take lightning pictures and am in awe when others make it work. I have a friend of mine at Photo.net who I regard as good help and inspiration for ligtning pictures and storm stuff. His name is Kenneth. Have a look: http://photo.net/photodb/user?user_id=320649
