The first is a Texas Bumelia Borer Beetle. I shot this with my 500mm :roflwhile in the Texas Hill Country trying to find some interesting birds. I didn't find anything so...I shot this instead. :rofl

The next one is a butterfly from Government State Canyon Park again from the Texas Hill Country near San Antonio.

The next set I am calling Bumble Bees In Motion. I was bored so I started playing around with my flash and high shutter speeds. This is from my garden or should I say my wife's garden. I planted none of it. :huh

Very nice set. I like the Bordered Patch butterfly shot as it nicely blends with the flower. thumb.gif

Is that what it is called? I couldn't find a picture of it to identify it. If it is thanks for the ID and comment.

Beautiful shots, Stephen. thumb.gif You really froze the action on those bees.

Thanks Joel. I learned a few things from that experiment; mainly that my poor Digital Rebel really starts to show noise at ISO 800. It's sort of strange though. I have shot at 1600 with little noise. Perhaps the lighting was better. ne_nau.gif

Yes it is a Patch butterfly: a Bordered Patch. Your is actually a variation with longer orange bars on the wings. You can also find a variation with the top almost completely orange. We don't have those butterflies here in the east coast. It is found only in the southwest. More info here: http://www.birdsofoklahoma.net/BorderedPatchButterfly.htm
