Do I need a separate Google Analytics account for my SmugMug URL? I have Google Analytics on my main site at http://www.enewspf.com. Or can I just install my code from my home site here? Will Google track that?

I don't know how Google works in that regard.

Do people typically capture stats for their SmugMug sites separately from their home sites?

I would also like to know how to creat a URL that looks more like mine, gallery.enewspf.com, for example. I can add the domain to my site. Just don't know how to get that to load at SmugMug.

I do not know, that's a Google question, I'm sorry. I think the answer is yes, but I'm not sure.

I don't know about others but I do. It's free and I find it easier that way to find who comes to which site (main/photos) directly or via image search.

this is good info for getting your albums tracked but the real value of analytics is the tracking of "conversions" or sales. (aka tracking if customers are ditching once the start the checkout...)
From what i read on google help pages smug mug need to add some code to the cart for this to work.
the reason for this is once a customer goes to checkout (even if your a pro user) they leave the domain being tracked to go to https://www.smugmug.com/cart/
this is considered the "Goal Funnel" and from my tests there are 5 steps or pages in this process.

What are Goals?
Goal conversions are the primary metric for measuring how well your site fulfills business objectives. A goal is a website page which a visitor reaches once they have made a purchase or completed another desired action, such as a registration or download.

How can goals help me?
Once you have set your goals, you'll be able to see conversion rates and the monetary value of the traffic you receive. You can also define a "funnel path" for each goal. A funnel path is the path you want visitors to take to reach a goal. Defining a funnel path allows you to monitor how frequently visitors who begin a conversion process actually complete it.

Examples of goals include:
"Thank you for registering" pages
receipts
flight itinerary confirmations
"Download completed" page

another issue im noticing is there is no retuning the customer to your site after purchase. it just strands the there on the confirmation page (https://www.smugmug.com/cart/order.mg?doOrder=true5) with no link back to your photos.

fixing these 2 issues would be a huge help in tracking e-commerce.

Great idea! (Not that I have a lot of sales to track :D ) I think you should post this in the features request thread as well!

Sastian,

Interestingly, I just poked around on the goals setup and my screen does not match yours completely...

The important thing I saw was this sentence in the "funnel" section:
Note: URL should not contain the domain (e.g. For a step page "http://www.mysite.com/step1.html" enter "/step1.html").

Based on that, you need to remove all the leading url info from your funnel steps.

Might be worth a try. thumb.gif
