Congrats on the 1D MKIIn and the lenses. :cool Let us know in a couple weeks how you like them especially the 400 DO. I've always been intrigued by that lens, since it is supposedly so light. Oh, and it is a tad less expensive than the 400 f/2.8 lol3.gif

    Thanks.:D

Here is what a experienced local photog has to say about the 400 DO.

Hopefully I will be able to pick up the navigation of the camera so I can give you a decent take on the lens....it may take awhile!rolleyes1.gif

Congrats, Ric. It is a big camera with a lot of settings isn't it - but ya know what I found - get it outside and a subject on your sights, and you'll figure it out!!!

    Thanks, Ann. :D

It was just a shock...I knew it was bigger and the controls were different, but my mind had a different idea of what to expect. One thing that jumps out at you is how nice and big and clear the viewfinder is. My old eyes are gonna love that.

Good for you, Ric. I can't wait to see the shots you get from your new equipment.

Is the body new or used? I'd been hoping the Mark III would be my next camera, however that won't happen until they get the autofocus situation sorted out. I think you made a smart move getting the IIN.

I know you also have the 70-300 DO, so you know something about the technology. I've been meaning to ask you about that lens, as I'd like to have a more discreet tele in my arsenal.

    Now post some pictures. deal.gif

    Thanks, Joel. :D

New...$3300...at Adorama (B&H was out). When I considered that I could get the cam and the 24-105 f/4L IS for the same $$$$ as the MKIII, it was a no-brainer for me.

The 70-300 DO IS is a great lens for zoos and the like. Only complaint is that the lens will flop to full zoom if you're not careful. A lot of the negative stuff you here is nit picky bs.

Now...I will put my 300 f/4L IS on my 30D and leave it there. I've always used it with the 1.4 TC and am looking forward to using it in it's prime state.

Here's a quickie of my neighbor, Gordy. 50% crop...he was about a short city block away.

Not only is B&H out of them, but they don't even show it on their website any more.

I'd forgotten you didn't have a 400mm yet. That DO ought to be able to able to handle a TC1.4x beautifully, and give even good results with a 2x I bet.

Glad to hear you like your 70-300 DO. That would be fun to have.

Your first picture looks good! Let's just hope Gordy doesn't see it. :giggle

    Two shots...
...with the new lens and cam. Both on the Mississippi in Dubuque, Ia.

I guess I should add these were both handheld with the 1.4 tc attached. The lens is a load but manageable.
