practicing...

Now that I've got an "official" little business going with 6 bookings already :huh I'm starting to panic! :rolleyes So, today I coaxed my son into letting me practice on him a bit. The first two were shot with my 28-75mm f/2.8 and the third was with my 90mm f/2.8. I was happy to get three very different expressions...

C&C welcome!!!

I think this one's a bit soft...f/4, 1/50, ISO 100, 75mm

f/4, 1/50, ISO 100, 50mm

f/2.8, 1/160, ISO 200, 90mm

The thing I worry most about is racoon eyes with no catchlights and hot, sunny spots in spotty light. I'm shooting a group of 4 children on Monday afternoon (ages 2, 4, 5.5, 6). I'm not terribly comfortable with going below f/5.6 on my 28-75mm (due to sharpness) and I'm not sure using my 90 for a group of 4 is practical. Anyway, working in the shade can lead to dark eyes and s.l.o.w. shutter speeds...with moving kids that's a train wreck! Anyone care to talk me into feeling better?? :cry

If it's not cloudy, and you have opening on one side of the shade, you should have some light to work with. If all else fails, you can flash 1 to 2 stops below measured ambient light to fill-in. This can work well.

Your posted pics are very good!

Thank you! Actually, my 28-75 is a Konica Minolta, but I think I've heard somewhere that this may be basically the same lens as the Tamron, just rebadged. ne_nau.gif It is my most used lens, but I wish it was sharper wide open.

Very much a possibility. Wide open would be great, but the sharpness at 3.5-4.0 is very good for a non-prime.

Ooooh, I like the first two but I love the black and white. The conversion is perfect, retaining the detail in his eyes....a very professional feel to it. just WOW. iloveyou.gif

Very nice! I love the last one. If you do get racoon eyes, you can use the clone tool set at 50% lighten to erase them. I can offer more specific advice once I see a pic, but I think I know what you mean.
