Custom Hostname Question

I have a two-part question:

1) If you have parts of your site hosted on on one domain (say MarkRogersPhotography.com) but others, like your galleries, hosted on markrogersphotography.smugmug.com is it better for SEO to have both or is it better to have all of them on MarkRogersPhotography.com

2) If I have a bunch of links out there on blogs, friends' sites, etc that are pointing back to my galleries on SM using the markrogersphotography.smugmug.com domain I assume that changing the custom hostname to markrogersphotography.com will not make all those URLs invalid
