Snowy Egret and Harbor Seals
I am much more of a landscape shooter than a wildlife shooter, but when I am stalking those vistas the wildlife seems to find me. I have learned to make sure my trusty 70-300 is in the bag just in case the occasion arises.
Saturday moning I was out shooting the dawn when a Snowy Egret showed up and started hunting the shoreline. He was at most 20 feet from me and seemed completely unconcerned at my presence.
Is this the Reznick flip?
The 5D isn't the fastest gun in the west so catching movements has to be done by timing rather than machine gunning. Clearly if I want to do more of this, I'll need a lens faster than f/5.6 to get decent shutter speeds (this was shot at 1/125s).
Last week I saw a few harbor seals just out side the gate (golden that is):
Mama
Pups
Then last night as I was out shooting at Point Reyes I saw a pod of humpacked whales. I took a few shots that I haven't processed yet. 300mm on a full frame sensor wasn't really long enough to get good shots of them, but they are clearly recognizable on a 100% crop. I'll post one or two here when I get them uploaded.
