My future enhancement plans necessitate using IPTC keywords. Is anyboby doing anyhting with them here? Is that available through the API? R/W?

Just embed your keywords into the file's IPTC, then upload. Smugmug takes care of the rest. Nothing extra needs be done. You can also use the Caption field & it's automatically recognized as well.

    Thanks Chris.

A more detailed explanation: I want to create a couple named keywords like boatbrand and boatname so that I can search on their values, which will be a string. I am currently just putting everything in keywords, but if I get 2000 or more boat name then keywords won't be useful anymore.

IPTC such as keywords and captions become the defaults for an image when uploaded.

At present, SmugMug keywords are able to be updated via the API, but at this stage there is no plans to provide write access to the IPTC information of the original image.

    Cheers,

OK, I see where you're going. You need to have the Names/brands of an owners' boat for them to search on your site? I think just putting them int keywords should still work fine. OK, so there's 2000 different boat names--what does that matter so long as the specific string searched for is found & the correct photos are returned? I think the keywords will be MORE useful at that point.

    Captions?

I think you'll also be fine when adding the boat names to the caption of the photos. I just did a search on my website on a term that is not in my keywords and it returns all the right photos. This way you can keep the number of keywords down.
