Standard "smile with the celeb" type portraits.
2-3 hours on-site work, 100-200 images, with 8x10 prints delivered to the company. A copy of each image of each person with the celeb sent to the company for the celeb to sign and get delivered.
Printing, shipping, time, organization with a proof cd.......
I also want to make sure to GET the job.......
I'll be making the prints thru an online lab, delivered to me then sent to the company.

By "grip and grin" do you mean like this, Fran Healy the lead singer of Travis with two fans?
So, you'd be working for the producers, label, production company or something? You'd be at premiers, concerts, awards shows?
Are you asking if should have an assistant? Is $800-1k what you'd charge the producers, label, etc?
I've never heard of something like this...but I live in DC. Politicians, yes. Celebs, not so much. We're just not hip and cool like that.

It's a portrait-shoot assembly line. People are paying to have their photo with the celeb. The background and lights are already set up. People sign-up, step up, shake hands with the celeb, exchange a few words, smile for the camera and move on.
It's actually for a pharmaceutical company that is bringing the celeb into town for a dinner and speech with the photo opprotunity.
I won't sell out even if the whole world think's I'm crazy.
Since the hosting company probably doesn't have an exact number on how many people will be photographed and that will directly affect your cost in prints, I would quote a flat rate + a per person rate.
Will you be handling the people signing in, or will the hosting company. I imagine they will since it sounds as if they will be mailing the prints to the individuals. I would make sure they don't just check off a list but somehow indicate the order the people were photographed in so they can match up prints to a name (I am assuming they might not be able to name them by looking at the picture).
Will you need an assistant to arrange them, it sounds like it won't be a rush, if they are going to chat with the celeb for a moment, so unless the host company has you work the sign in table then an assistant isn't necessary. Even if they expect you to host the table, with the somewhat laidback sound to the event and time to chat with them, you may not even need the assistant. (Have them print name on clipboard, they walk over to the celeb chat, then you get them arranged, smile, snap a couple shots, they then walk off, and the next person comes over. Having a somewhat roped off area will help with a single area to come through to enter the photo area)
Just some thoughts. I guess $400 flat fee + $5 per person (for prints) would be about right. So 50 people it would be $650, 100 people it would be $900, 150 people it would be $1150, 200 people it would be $1400. I wouldn't risk them saying "Oh 50 people" and then 200 show up, especially if you are providing 8x10's for every person that shows up. If its a celeb that is pretty well known and currently popular it will probably be a well attended event.
Also another idea would be to somehow include the pharmaceutical logo or product logo on the print maybe in the bottom right or left corner. This may help get you the job, others might not think to offer this. Or the company might have a backdrop with their logo that would be behind the celeb and attendee (similar to those seen at pro sports post game interviews, etc).
On a side note Lance, I would try to edit down the number of images you have on your site in certain areas. You have some good work, but also some images that are not worth displaying. Also I wouldn't including some of the images of the official photographer in a wedding gallery for display to the public. Fewer, but better images is better than hundreds of images with a few that are of high quality. You maybe just starting out, I think I did the same thing when I started, but at some point you want others photographers to critique it and help display your strongest work. Your senior portraits are a great example of how you should show your strong images. I think you have way to much public under the Art Fashion area as well as the wedding area.
Browsing through your images, I can't believe a videographer shot a wedding wearing shorts, that blew me away.
I had not even considered a "per person" fee. I was either going to go with a straight day rate or per hr. I do like the per-person rate plus a base fee. Then if is a massive event then more work = more $.
I think I will be alone on this (from the company), other than a assistant I will most likely call in.
They want a 8x10 or each person photographed delivered to them, which locally costs around $5/each, and I have no idea what shipping 200 prints may cost.
PM me with any more thoughts on my galleries. There is a reason I have it that way but would rather not get into it right now.
