My first Assassin Bug

I know this is not a "new" bug for most of you--just the first time I've noticed one in my garden. I had to go on line to identify it. I am glad I did not try and pick it up--apparently it has a nasty bite.

Hi there Tlee, I have seen one of those in USA.
Frightened the daylights out of me because of the size of it,
and I was not sure if it was poisonous, or would hurt me if I got too close.
They are quite a decent size aren't they
