Without having a "good" lens to capture these types of pictures, does this effect work?

    Sort of. Seems like it's still dark overall - even her. If nothing else, to my eye she needs to pop more. ne_nau.gif

    Take it from someone who has all the good lenses and still struggles to take a good picture. This is a very good picture.. I love how the girl is the only thing focused

    i only have microsoft photo editor so i really only incresed the sixe of the image to allow me to only sharpen her. the rest of the picture stayed the same. if i had a copy of photo shop i could do more, not better mind you but more.

    Indeed it could use a bit more pop..
    How about a slight curves adjustment? Maybe some extra saturation..
