How do I find someone to shadow?

Any advice on finding someone to shadow? I've done some work for family and friends just for fun, nothing serious and love it! I am practicing a lot to get better, but would love to shadow someone to get advice and experience. Especially on weddings. I don't want to shoot weddings without shadowing many people first. How do I find someone willing to let me learn? Here's my site for an idea of what I do: www.olivialeighphotography.com

Thanks for any suggestions!

Leigh - adjust your settings for your profile and avatar so your "location" is visible. That will help others to assist you.

If you're located in LA, or southern California, we have several groups, most notably LAShooters, who regularly get together for shoots and to share tricks and tips.

Others in other regions do this as well.

Check the regional gropu postings in this forum for your area.

I wasn't able to figure out how to change that stuff. I am in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area. How do I check postings from people in my area? Thanks for the help!

This is important. For some reason, if you have the location filled in, but not the boxes above, your location won't show. Even a "." will work to jiggle the handle enough to get your location to show.

Maybe i'm blind, but I can't find any place to type in my location. Just my age and title. I filled it all in.

Sorry, I'm just not finding it.

Onw could always do as I did over 30 some years ago and start calling or going to studios, introduce yourself as a student of photography and your looking to be an assistant so that you can learn.....What I found was that the major players in my area were scared to death of teaching someone that just might become their competition and was actually told this....my reply was for him to think of it as preparing his successor for when he retires......he was already in his mid sixties and I was in my early twenties.....he did not budge......I kept this up and in less than a month I found a wedding studio that wanted another photog and took in my portfolio of home processed 8 10's and was amazed at the reaction I got, the owner was very complimentary...so I had to go to several weddings with her and shoot beside her and also teach her how to use a light meter and set her Hassy for proper exposure....I was using a Yashica 124G (twin lens film camera)....I workled for her for over a year and then I moved to another studio and started shooting for myself also ...........

It takes time and perseverance to find a willing teacher........actually I had one studio give me a shot list that I was to check off as I took each shot....the list was over 500 shots ( the list had to be returned with the film).....it took me way to long to shoot and then mark it off it was very stressful and now that I look back on it was extremely unprofessional..........

    Good luck

Thanks for that advice! I will look into that! I really would like to find someone more photojournalism style, too. So thanks for giving me something to think about!
