So, I have made my decision; at least I think I have. However, as I watch the entries come in, I am seeing lots of bold, nearly minimalist entries and I feel a bit like I came to the formal dinner wearing a swimsuit. You can never have too much uncertaintly, right?

So here is my current entry along with three other shots that were in the running

1. Former Glory

2. The Edge of Night

3. Ripples

I really like Edge of Night and Out of the Fire is pretty spectacular too. But I'd stick with Former Glory. It tells a story and tugs a bit at the heartstrings. All lovely shots.

Thanks all! I'll sleep better tonight not worrying that I'm crazy. BTW, if you look closely, Out of the Fire is actually a detail from Former Glory. I moved the tripod about two feet left and changed lenses, but the same scene is clearly visible (albeit less saturated) in a 100% crop of Former Glory.

Former Glory aka "Sea Breeze" for me too! It's just a wonderful shot. Lots to look at and ponder.

    Lubbers Lament...

Us landlocked lubbers like seeing seaside shots. But, they have a propensity to be sunset scenes with lots of sky and lots of water. While thats can be exhilerating, it can also become a bit over the top.

Now, Former Glory was something new...
Its power lies in the dark to light gradient from bow to stern, mirrored by the similar cloud pattern.
Its mystique lies in the dilapidated state of repair, suggesting years of productive life, yet now only a byway has been.
Its allure catches the eye with sunset's golden color thru the missing wheelhouse window (although there, I might have boosted the color just a bit)

Our camera club had an Annual Banquet entry last year which got BEST of Show. Labeled Planet Bisti, it was an image of similar light conditions, but using rock vs water and boat as partial subjects. After I went back and found the site, the site was simply an UGGHHH...

But the light made the whole kit and caboodle...

Former Glory - great title; good image!

This boat has so much personality the more I view it. I think it's a marvelous composition. It's like the boat is yearning to be out amongst the other two ships ....the composition manages to almost humanize the vessel for me. Great shot! thumb.gif

Again, thank you all for your kind comments. Over the last few days I have been continually refining Former Glory with an eye toward making large print to hang in my house. I have done a little bit of cloning, some highlight and shadow recovery, and some localized saturation adjustments. It is a good exercise, albeit time consuming. Overall, I think the shot is quite a bit better for the effort. It is actually nice to think of it that way; whatever happens in the competition, I'll have a nice print to hang on my wall.
